Christ-Centered Apologetics: Sharing the Gospel with Evidence
by Joel Furches
Christ-Centered Apologetics: Sharing the Gospel With Evidence puts the “Christ” back in “Christianity” by arguing that if Jesus was real, then no matter what other arguments critics might bring against Christianity, then it still stands as a true belief. The book then goes on to prove that the Biblical Jesus was real, and to give tactics for sharing this reality with a cynical and skeptical culture.
To those who are not believers in Christ, the primary goal is to introduce them to Christ. This book makes the case that belief in Christ is actually reasonable based on the evidence. This evidence includes an examination of the Gospels and, based on their contents, whether it is reasonable to believe that they were written by eye-witnesses of Christ. It then examines the transmission of the documents to modern times to see if they are still reliable after so many generations of translation and transmission.
Beyond this, archeological and textual evidence is examined to verify the reliability of the New Testament based on external evidence. The book also makes a connection between the Old Testament profile of the Messiah to the Jesus of the New Testament to show the uncanny accuracy of ancient prophecy. If Jesus fulfilled even one prophecy, his miraculous nature is verified.
All in all, Christ-Centered Apologetics is a book that meets a need in the modern church, that need being the wedding of Apologetics with Evangelism – that one cannot speak to the modern world about Christ without the evidence that Apologetic study provides, nor can one speak of evidence divorced from the need to share Christ.
With all the apologetic books available today, a fair question to ask would be, “Why should I bother to read this one?” Simply put, Joel’s book is an excellent marriage of scholarship and practical application. In this book, readers not only learn a cumulative case for the Christian faith, but also learn tactics to share their convictions thoughtfully and winsomely. This book reminds us what the discipline of apologetics is all about – sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. Furches also wields top-notch scholarship in addressing the arguments of modern day biblical criticism. This book is perfect for the novice apologist wanting to learn what apologetics is all about or the seasoned apologist who needs reminded why we do apologetics in the first place. I confidently recommend this book!

Joel bridges the gap between high scholarship and the everyday Christian, taking complex arguments and forming them in a way that any Christian would feel confident to reuse. A great resource for the lay church member looking for an introduction into defending their faith!
-Kristen Davis, DoubtLess Faith Ministries
This volume stands in the tradition of empirical apologetics.
It will guide the reader in dealing with the common and often ignorant conjectures thrown out in public conversation such as the supposed unreliability of the biblical text when other ancient books with far less textual evidence are casually accepted without question. This handy work ought to encourage believers that the Christian faith is rational, factually-based, and able to withstand the closest of examinations. Furches is to be commended for his emphasis on the centrality of the Lord Jesus Christ and His resurrection. After all, if faced with death with which historic religious leader would one want to converse about what lies beyond the grave?
