I LOVE the fall season! I find it so cozy and welcoming. I love everything about it. We get to put the sweltering summer days behind us and step into gentler temperature days. We get to leave the prolonged hours of daylight that seems to insist on consistent activity and begin finding a less demanding rhythm to our days. And the nights! Such a welcome departure from summer’s pollen and humidity. They become crispy-cool evoking the sensation of freshness. Don’t misunderstand, I enjoy all that summer brings. It’s just I love the fall!
Fall is also a season of harvest, where the extended sunlight hours have ripened the bounty of fruits and vegetables God has given us for food. And on the Jewish civil calendar, it is the season of a New Year–Rosh Hashanah. Did you know this Head of the New Year begins in the fall, on the first of Tishrei, because it marks the anniversary of the creation of humanity and the universe? Perhaps the underlying reason why I love the fall is because it literally celebrates all Creation as established by God.
This upcoming Hebrew New Year we will move from the Hebrew year 5786 to the year 5787. The actual number of the year represent a counting since God’s creation of the world. The exact starting point (or epoch) was established in the 2nd century CE by rabbinic calculations that traced timelines and genealogies recorded in the Hebrew Bible, which is the Old Testatment of the Christian Bible. The autumn season then, allows us to both reflect on the past considering the wonderous works of God from the origin of creation, with a sense of renewal, anticipating yet another year for creation with all the hope a New Year brings.
Hebrew is exceedingly rich with numbers having meaning, letters being pictures with meaning–in Hebrew nothing is without deep meaning. For example we are leaving the year 5786: five is the number of grace, seven is the number of divine completion, eight is the number of new beginnings and, six is the number of man. So this particular transition into the New Year means we are transitioning from the year with focus on humanity (5786) into a year that is focused on God (5787). Recall, the book of Genesis explains God created for six days and on the seventh, He rested from His work. That is the same rhythm God has ordained for humanity: man shall work for six days and rest on the seventh. But as with all things Hebrew, there is always more . . .
We are in the fifth millennium (5000). The number 700 combines the symbolic perfection of the number seven with the multiplier of completeness or fullness (100) to represent spiritual completeness, divine order, and the total fulfillment of God’s plans. The number 80 often symbolizes strength maturity and a new beginning or liberation. It frequently marks a turning point where God transitions a person or group into a major phase of freedom and leadership. The number eighty is “pey” in Hebrew, which represents the mouth. It’s significant to note we are living in the decade of the mouth–a point I will draw out in a bit.
In addition to what’s been shared here about the number seven, we need to consider the seventh letter of the Hebrew alphabet is Zayin, carrying the numerical value of seven. And because of how the letter is drawn, it denotes a sword or a weapon and also a crown. From ancient pictographs it also carries the meaning of food or nourishment.
All of this to say this upcoming year of 5787 is recognized as the Year of the Sword of the Lord that brings with it rest and nourishment for God’s people, while God’s power and authority over the enemy is experienced in all its s full power and glory. We are entering a time like Gideon, where God literally fought Gideon’s battle by causing the Midianite army to turn on and destroy one another in total confusion. THIS is what we can expect to see in this upcoming year when God wants us to rest while He fights our battles. God is showing up because as a result of our sufferings these past six years, we have earnestly sought God and have better learned how to call on Christ’s power and authority finally engaged in spiritual warfare. In this decade of the eighties, we have been learning how to use our mouths to decree and declare God’s will be done on earth as it is in heaven. In response, God is showing up to fight the battle.
As I’ve been studying and learning, I believe we can expect this upcoming year (which begins on September 11, 2026 on the Gregorian calendar) to be a year of rest for God’s children who have become battle weary these past six years struggling and fighting through the enemy’s intensified schemes. I believe God is now allowing us to observe and experience His promised intervention. The Sword of the Lord will go before us, entirely in our behalf, as the King enters the battle, demonstrating divine rule and directly turning the tide of the conflict.
The many prophetic promises God has given these past six years, have been to fortify us in the spiritual battle until this point in time, emphasizing the battle belongs to the Lord. At the same time, these past six years have also been a time of extended grace when God is giving as much time as possible to evil-doers to decide to repent and be spared His judgment. What I firmly believe we will see, beginning this autumn are greater and more glorious displays of God than the world has seen. We will finally experience His judgment and justice upon unrepentant evil, pushing the enemy lines way back, making room for His people to step into place, to reclaim the land for God’s Kingdom.
The enemy has tried to cause the time of the Tribulation to begin before God’s appointed time. And he made significant progress while God’s people were deceived, apathetic and distracted. The suffering we’ve endured, and the battles we’ve had to face, have been because of our own lack of involvement. Even so, God is ever faithful. By allowing us to suffer our own consequences, He has awakened us to the truth about our selves, allowing us to repent and be ready for this New Year–this time of the King entering the battle. This demonstrates how God’s judgment begins with the House of the Lord.
I am expecting great and mighty things in the upcoming months–both great and terrible. Between the Fall months, (that mark the beginning of the Civil calendar), and the Spring months, (that mark the beginning of the Spiritual calendar), we need to be alert and diligent, being continually focused on prayer and spiritual warfare, while God fights in our behalf. God has spoken of both a Great Harvest of Souls and a Greater Exodus to occur and many people, myself included sense these events are imminent. I am watching to see if the Great Harvest of Souls becomes evident with Rosh Hashanah, the beginning of the Civil year, that leads to Yom Kippur also in the month of Tishrei, which is the Day of Atonement. I am also watching to see if the Greater Exodus seems to become evident the following Spring of 2027, during the month of Nissan, which God designated to Moses as the start of the Hebrew Spiritual calendar year, which includes the Passover and later in the spring includes Pentecost.
Through it all God has prophetically revealed we will witness Him administering judgment–removing people who refused to repent, while at the same time performing miracles, signs and wonders on behalf of His people. What if, this time of transition from the end of Summer to the beginning of the Fall, is the time we look back upon as the beginning of the most unique in all the history of the world? It very well could happen!
