One of the major questions people ask when trying to comprehend God is, “If God is a good and loving God who is sovereign over all, why is there pain and suffering in this world?” Great question and one I’m thrilled to explore with you.
One of the points I make in my book is this: “Just because God is sovereign over all, doesn’t make Him responsible for all.” That’s worth pondering.
In short, the fact that angels and humans were created with free-will is why pain and suffering exist. By an exercise of choice to either be devoted to God or independent from Him, some angels rebelled against God and so did the first man and first woman ever created. When the first man and woman rejected or sinned against God, their eternal soul and spirit within them died, and they were separated from God and all that is good. Unlike angles, human beings pro-create so this means that every human being born ever since the first man and first woman, have been born with the same spiritually dead condition. It’s a condition we have inherited.

“The corruption of all that was good by way of free-will choice means that evil has no independent existence–evil is a potential from free-will. God did not create evil. It exists because of choice. Just as sin entered the world through free-will choice, so it is being removed from the world through free-will choice. As people choose to be restored to God through faith in Jesus Christ, evil is in part removed and an increase influence of God and all that is good is made available on earth.”
God is in sovereign control and is able to use the evil that choice ushered into creation to ultimately produce good. Genesis 50:20 and Romans 8:28-30 are just two Scripture passages that reveal this truth. Once we better understand the process of eradicating evil and how we can personally cooperate with God to live in all that Jesus died to provide us, we will experience more and more personal breakthroughs!
